Open ITF Championships - Sept 2022
On Saturday 10th September Taekwon-Do UK Scotland, who have their HQ in the old gospel hall in Forth, held their second Inter club competition of 2022. The competition saw just under 300 competitors of all ages and belt colors take the mats to compete against fellow club mates from across West Central Scotland in 3 different disciplines (Patterns, Sparring and Special Technique). The competition was held at Wishaw Sports Centre and provided an excellent opportunity for first time competitor to dip their toe into the competitive element of the martial art created by Korean General Choi Hong Hi in the 1950s. The inter club competition is a developmental competition giving students the opportunity to put into practice what they have learnt during their training while feeling the thrill of competition.
The inter club also provided some additional practice for the competition squad before they travelled to Coventry on the 17th September to take part in the Open ITF Taekwon-Do Championships. The team was lead by their head coach Mr David Condie VI Degree and consisted of 15 student all looking to get their hands on a medal at the tournament. The team arrived at venue on Saturday morning with some of the group attending their first open competition. They had all trained hard over the last few months in preparation for upcoming competitions and were keen to hit the mats and get underway. The competition was well attended with just under 500 competitors taking part making some large divisions and a long day!
The team performed fantastically well and supported each other throughout the day with no competitor not having been cheered on . As a team the squad brought home a total of 17 medals (10 Gold, 3 Silver & 4 Bronze)

Mr Condie the head Instructor of Taekwon-Do UK Scotland said
“On reflection I am so proud and pleased with the efforts of the squad, coaches, manager and support.
Every competitor played their part and the support from families means so much. The rapport with the students really warmed my heart and everyone was a credit to the club and what we are trying to achieve.
I had so many compliments regarding our group and this filled myself with pride.
Our coaches and umpires have been excellent and a great support for me.
The objective of our squad training is to create a team of skill fill students with manners and sporting integrity who will support each other are disciplined and train hard. I think this competition shows we are well on our way to achieving this.”
The hard work doesn’t stop here as the team, and more, will travel back to Coventry at the end of October to take part in their own British championships taking on teams from across the Taekwon-Do UK association.
